The main objective of the SAT2CAR project is to develop and validate an integral system of services and mobile applications in vehicle through a communications satellite to offer bidirectional on-board applications in “connected cars”.
The project, which started in 2016 and ends in 2018, has a total budget of € 1,726,262 and its execution is mainly located in Galicia. To achieve the project’s objectives, the consortium in charge of carrying out the project’s activities is composed of:
- A final vehicle manufacturer (OEM), PSA Peugeot Citroën
- A satellite operator, HISPASAT
- One telecommunications equipment manufacturer, EGATEL, leader of the consortium.
- An ICT service provider, ALTIA
- A technological SME, QUOBIS
In addition, the subcontracted research organizations are two technological centers, CTAG – Automotive Technology Center of Galicia and GRADIANT – Technological Center for Telecommunication of Galicia, and a university, University of VIGO, which promote and support R & D activities of the industry The multisectorial nature of the project is complemented by its territorial diversity since, although the consortium is mainly formed by Galician entities, Hispasat participates through its center located in the Canary Islands The project is subsidized by the CDTI – Center for Industrial Technological Development – through the FEDER-INTERCONECTA 2016 program, it has the support of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and is co-financed with FEDER Funds from the European Union.
